Hip-Hop Classic #16: 2Pac - I Ain't Mad At Cha (Chosen by Wretch 32)

'I Ain't Mad At Cha' is a track taken from 2Pac's fourth studio album, All Eyez On Me, which was released in 1996 on Death Row Records. Although the album was released exactly 7 months before his death, the single was released shortly after his death. The track was produced by Dat Nigga Daz (Daz Dillinger) and samples the song 'A Dream' by DeBarge. The song is a heartfelt tribute to his friend who had converted to Islam - it features contemporary soul singer Danny Boy, who provided the vocals for the hook. Surprisingly it did well in the United Kingdom, reaching #13 in the UK Singles Chart - it was not released as a single in the United States, thus making it ineligible to chart on the Billboard singles charts, but reached #18 and #58 in the R&B and Pop Airplay charts, respectively. This is a piece of music that holds a special place in any 2Pac fan's heart.
Wretch 32: "This song is real thoughts which you can feel and relate to with every word he says. That alone makes this my favourite Hip-Hop song."
