Hip-Hop Classic #27: The Pharcyde - Runnin' (Chosen by Andy Sheldrake)

'Runnin' is the lead single from The Pharcyde's sophmore album, Labcabincalifornia, which was released in 1995 on Delicious Vinyl. The song was produced by J Dilla and samples 'Saudade Vem Correndo' by popular Jazz artist Stan Getz, and also samples part of the hook from Run DMC's 'Rock Box'. 'Runnin' peaked at #55 on the Billboard Hot 100, and reached #35 on the US R&B Chart - the album reached #37 on the Billboard Top 2000 and #17 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart. Although this album was a more mellow and introspective affair than their debut, 'Runnin' will forever go down as a classic and one of Jay Dee's best productions.
