Earlier today young folk singer Benjamin Francis Leftwich dropped into the Maida Vale studios to perform a stunning acoustic cover of David Guetta's latest smash hit single 'Titanium'. Who knew Guetta's music could sound so unique and pure?!
As part of Fearne Cotton's special Brit Awards week on Radio 1, Ed Sheeran dropped into the Maida Vale studios this morning to perform his latest single and a mystery cover of a track from a previous Brit winner. Following an ever-flawless rendition of 'Drunk', the 20 year-old singer/songwriter decided to take on the Jay-Z & Alicia Keys' monster collaboration 'Empire State of Mind', putting his own unique soulful twist on it and absolutely smashing it to pieces. This was Ed's first live lounge with a full band (Chris, Mark & John), and for me it was his best to date. Listen to/download both performances after the jump - Slumdon Bridge has had 120,000+ downloads in less than 24 hours. Bawse.
Following the two tracks that were on his show last week, Huw Stephens this week played out the final two tracks from Mikill Pane's simply brilliant Live Lounge session. 'You Don't Know Me' is storytelling at its very best.
Mikill Pane dropped into the Radio 1 studios last night to have a little chat with Huw Stephens and play two tracks from his brilliant Maida Vale session, which was recorded a few weeks ago with a full band. Huw has been a huge supporter of the London-born wordsmith ever since he was introduced to his music last year, and this session will give Mr. Pane the opportunity to reach out to a whole new audience and prove why he is seen by many as the most exciting lyricist in the UK right now. You can download both tracks HERE and hear two more from the session on Huw's show next week.
Earlier today Example and Eddie Kid dropped into Hatfield University to perform a special stripped back piano-driven live lounge session for Fearne Cotton as part of the Radio 1 Student Tour 2011. Whilst he was there Example performed his first number 1 single, Changed The Way You Kiss Me, and a brilliant interpretation of Rihanna & Calvin Harris' new single, We Found Love. You can listen to and download both songs below. Example will be performing live later on tonight for Zane Lowe and Midnight Run is out December 4th.
Earlier today, Labrinth & Tinie Tempah dropped into the Maida Vale studios to perform a live lounge session for Fearne Cotton, and brought a full band and choir along with them. Whilst they were there they performed Lab's second single to come from his forthcoming debut album and a spectacularly arranged cover of Beautiful People by Chris Brown. You can hear/download both below and pre-order the single HERE.
After reaching number 4 with You Need Me on Sunday and with his debut album coming out in 3/4 days, Ed Sheeran dropped into the Radio 1/1Xtra studios today to perform his latest single along with two pretty special covers. For Sara Cox and Radio 1 he put his own unique Reggae infused twist on Emeli Sandé's debut single, Heaven, which charted at number 2 behind Wretch 32 a couple of weeks ago. For Trevor Nelson and the 1Xtra listeners he took one of my favourite Frank Ocean songs and absolutely smashed it to pieces - I've seen him perform this before, but he never fails to impress me. You can listen to the two covers below and download all three performances HERE.
Emeli Sandé dropped into the Maida Vale studios earlier this week to perform an exclusive Live Lounge session for Mistajam's show last night. The session included the soon to be hit single Heaven, along with two stunning new tracks, one of which you can watch below - you can download the entire session HERE. You can also watch Emeli performing a spectacular cover of Coldplay's new single for The Sun's Biz Sessions HERE. What a voice.
Earlier today 15 year old singer/songwriter Birdy visited the Maida Vale studios to perform a stunning live lounge session for Fearne Cotton. Whilst she was there she covered The A-Team by Ed Sheeran, which is currently at number 3 for the fifth week running. Nobody will ever be able to better the original, but this is a brilliant take from a girl who has a very bright future ahead of her.
Earlier tonight Mr. Sheeran dropped in to speak to Jo Whiley and do a little session for the Radio 2 listeners, which included a performance of mine and his favourite track from his highly anticipated debut album, which will be released on September 19th. I have been lucky enough to hear about half of the album and can assure you that it is nothing short of spectacular. This song in particular pulls on my heart strings every single time I hear it. Stunning.
